Supporting our Communities in Karimun Island

A sustainable approach is essential to how we operate, as well as to ensuring that Karimun Power Plant continues to thrive in the long-term, and remains one of leading integrated hybrid renewable energy companies.
It allows the company to consider how societal and environmental issues affect our day-to-day operation, and is a key driver of our strategy as we navigate a global energy transition while fostering circularity and empowering communities.
Our Initiatives
Localizing our Biomass Procurement Process
We collect waste materials from surrounding traditional sago and coconut processing mills to use as biomass fuel, transforming waste into value and creating profitable opportunities across the supply chain.

Local Boatmen for Biomass Transportation
In transporting the waste sago bark and coconut husk material, we collaborate with local boatmen, providing them with employment opportunities and supporting their livelihoods.

Cleaner Air Through Sustainable Waste Utilization
By utilizing sago bark and coconut husk as biomass fuel, we help eliminate waste that would otherwise be openly burned, a common practice that contributes to air pollution. By preventing harmful emissions and reducing reliance on traditional burning, we improve air quality for surrounding communities

Revitalizing Soil with Biochar
Producing biochar from our biomass gasification, a natural soil enhancer that not only improves soil fertility but also captures carbon, supporting climate change mitigation efforts. We are committed to distributing this biochar to restore disturbed land in Karimun Island, helping to regenerate soil health and promote sustainable land use.

Protecting Biodiversity Through Restoration and Conservation
At Karimun Power Plant, we are committed to safeguarding biodiversity by restoring coastal ecosystems and creating safe habitats for wildlife. We replant mangroves around our operation to prevent erosion and support marine life, while also developing wildlife sanctuaries to protect native species.

Empowering Local Communities
Sustainability starts with people. Through vocational training, employment opportunities, and local business partnerships, we equip communities with the skills and resources to grow alongside our operations.
